My story starts earlier than most. In my senior year of high school, I walked through the doors of the U.S. Department of Justice — and what began as an opportunity quietly became a calling. Over the next 18 years, I moved through some of the most demanding divisions in the federal government, collecting a skill set that most professionals spend an entire career trying to piece together.
At the Office of Immigration Litigation, I sharpened my instincts for high-stakes legal work — the kind where accuracy isn't a preference, it's a requirement. Then came the Federal Programs Branch, where the scope of my role expanded far beyond the courtroom. FPB sits directly beneath the U.S. Attorney General's office — one of the most powerful legal offices in the country — and it's the division federal agencies turn to when they need litigation support on their most complex, nationally significant cases — the ones covered by major news outlets and argued before federal courts. I was in the room for that work, managing the moving pieces and keeping things airtight.
But my role at FPB went well beyond legal support. I provided direct executive support to the Branch Director — managing calendars, coordinating high-level communications, preparing briefings, and keeping daily operations running without a hitch. I also took on newsletter production, internal communications, and full event planning responsibilities — organizing everything from internal team events to larger departmental functions with the same precision I brought to litigation. That's where I learned something important: great support isn't one skill. It's twenty skills working seamlessly together.
In 2021, I transitioned to the Department of the Interior as a Paralegal Specialist in the Employment and Labor Law Unit — stepping into a role that demanded the same exacting standards I'd built my entire career on. I supported attorneys on federal employment and labor matters, managing case files, conducting legal research, drafting correspondence, and ensuring every deadline was met with precision. It was a natural evolution — new agency, same commitment to doing the work right.
While at DOI, I was also selected for a competitive detail as a Digital Strategist for Fish and Wildlife Services, supporting the Mountain-Prairie Region — and this is where my skill set took on an entirely new dimension. I crafted social media content across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X), and LinkedIn; developed and executed digital communication strategies using multimedia including web stories, podcasts, and slideshows; and analyzed performance data via Hootsuite to guide content strategy and improve campaign results. I handled time-sensitive media and public inquiries, managed community engagement across platforms, and ensured every piece of content met federal compliance standards — including accessibility, records management, and copyright law. I even partnered directly with fish and wildlife specialists to translate complex scientific data into clear, compelling public-facing campaigns.
That detail gave me something rare: I don't just understand operations and administration — I understand brand voice, digital strategy, content, and communication at a level most VAs simply don't have. And I have the federal receipts to prove it.
Where it all began
My first virtual assistant role was with Aniela Rose, a local balloon and events company — and honestly, it changed everything. What started as a chance to apply my federal skills in a completely different world quickly turned into the proof of concept I didn't know I needed. I provided full administrative and creative support: managing client emails and appointments, writing original blog content, monitoring analytics, maintaining calendars, coordinating travel, updating the website, and producing visual content — photos, videos, newsletters, the works.
That role showed me that everything I had built over nearly two decades — the organization, the communication, the eye for detail, the ability to wear twelve hats at once and make it look effortless — translated perfectly into the entrepreneurial space. Small business owners needed exactly what I had to offer. They just needed someone who could actually deliver it at a high level.
